Joanne Epply-Schmidt

Joanne Epply-Schmidt’s interest in theater, music, and storytelling go back to high school when she performed in musical comedies and dramas. At Princeton University she performed with Theater Intime both on campus and at the Edinburgh Festival. She also sang in the Princeton Opera Company. Joanne served as assistant priest at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Pennington from 1990-2000. Stories have always held an important place in her teaching and pastoral care. At St. Matthews Joanne was responsible for children and youth ministries, and as part of this work she directed an original drama with the junior high school students each year; she lead the youth group and outreach program; and she designed and taught senior high school scripture studies. In addition to telling stories in her sermons, Joanne has frequently performed at Princeton Day School where her two sons attend school. Joanne earned her B.A. from Princeton University in Comparative Literature and her Masters of Divinity at Yale University. While earning her credits in clinical pastoral education she worked as a chaplain at Yale New Haven Hospital.
