Learn to Use Storytelling as a Teaching Tool

The ancient art of storytelling offers today's students and teachers a dynamic learning tool

The Storytelling Arts 2010 Storytelling Institutes for Teachers are intensive, in-depth professional development programs covering storytelling performance techniques as well as ways to use storytelling to advance literacy and promote social and personal development. Methods taught can be used across the curriculum.

Erolling in an institute will enable you to:

      ·         Hone your natural skills as a storyteller
      ·         Learn dynamic, interactive teaching tools that promote a
            collaborative learning community
      ·         Techniques modeled and taught will be aligned with NJ Core
            Curriculum Content Standards
      ·         Workshops will meet NJ Professional Development
            Standards for Teachers
      ·         Methods taught are adaptable to all age groups and varying
            learning styles

Storytelling Arts will offer 23 professional development credits for this program. Master storytellers Paula Davidoff will lead the New Brunswick Institute and Ellen Musikant and Luray Gross will lead the Moorestown institute. Content will be tailored to participant needs and interests as determined in a pre-institute survey.

“The workshop was not about learning to tell a story. It was a voyage of discovery—exploring and understanding who you are...and through understanding and allowing a story to be told through you. The workshop touches your spirit—it brings poetry to your soul.”
- Dot Kohrherr, Teacher, South Brunswick

Storytelling Arts programs have been taught in over 50 schools in New Jersey over the last 14 years. For more information and to register, download the form.
